First edition, first printing, first variant (colophon dated 1673) of the first English Bible ever printed at Oxford – the beginning of a great tradition of Bible printing.
Quarto. Collates complete. Engraved general title-page, printed general title-page, A-Z8, Aa-Zz8, Aaa8, Bb8 (sic), Ccc4, (A)-(H)8, (I)3 [(I)4, blank, excised]; engraved New Testament title-page, printed NT title-page, (A-(P8 [8 a blank]. Some leaves mis-signed in printing. Has the engraved titles as well as the printed titles. Some light damp and other occasional staining; intermittent light browning/foxing. P6 in Judges with a spill stain. [Xx8] in Ezekiel with a printing anomaly, losing som e text, and same leaf with some burning. Overall still a very clean copy, with very comfortable margins.
With Book of Common Prayer, Oxford 1675, bound in at front and the 1675 Sternhold and Hopkins metrical Psalms bound in at back.
Modern full speckled calf by Starr Bookworks of Arizona. Spin e tooled in compartments with black morocco lettering piece.
