Calvin's Institutes - London, 1582

The Institution of Christian Religion, written in Latine by M. John Calvine, and translated into English according to the Author's Last Edition, by Thomas Norton...London: Printed by Henrie Middleton for William Norton, 1582.

Bound paneled calf in blind with center panel darkened, rebackedwith new cords sewn in, heavy dark brown acid free paper over spine with original chipped spine strip laid over, rubbed & scuffed, red speckled page edges, later endpapers, strip of acrchival rag paper pasted over inside front hinge, title soiled and with serveral tears repaired on the verso, MSS poem on verso of title signed "J.H.," a couple of edge tears in several leaves.

Very minor soiling or browning. Some damp and other staining, but mostly very nice. Well margined. Overall a very good copy of one of the most influential books in history, the summa of Calvinism.
