[with Vol. 3:] The Third Volume of Ecclesiasticall Historie: Containing the Acts & Monuments of Martyrs, with a generall discourse of these later Persecutions, horrible Troubles and Tumults, stirred up by Romish Prelates in the Church… Recognized and Enlarged by the Author John Foxe. Whereunto are annexed certaine additions, unto th e time of our Soveraigne Lord King Charles now reigning… London: Company of Stationers, 1641.

Eighth edition, arguably the finest edition of this great martyrology. Three folio volumes. The 1641 edition contains many significant additions to the 1583, the final lifetime edition and contains the Life of John Foxe in English and Latin in the second volume.

Frontispiece portrait of John Foxe, age 70, in 1587 -- “G. Glouer, sculpt.”. Ex-libris Boys Library Wellington College. Some rodential nibbling to fore-edge of early leaves in Volume I. Volume II with title-page chip repair with slight loss to woodcut border; inserted “description of Windsor Castle” tired and chipped, old repair; Vol. III title-pag e tired, repaired. All three volumes with some internal soiling, staining and occasional tears/repairs, but less than usually encounter. Overall near fine internally and in new bindings of half calf over marbled boards.
