Ancient Bible

Geneva Bible

The Bible, London: Christopher Barker, 1579

Quarto. 8.25 x 6.5 x 2.5 inches. Textually complete. Lacks preliminaries. Opening leaves tired, recornered. New Testament title page chipped and heavily restored. Incomplete Tables bound in at back. Some ink notes. General light soiling and thumbing. Occasional light damp. A few small tears/repairs. Overall, still a very fine copy of an edition of great historical significance and rarity. Some leaves in Revelation are bound out of order, but all text is present.

Old full dark calf, at some point rebacked, with spine lettering in gilt. Herbert 160.

This is the first Geneva Bible printed in England, rather than Geneva, Switzerland... making it a very desirable first edition printing.

Please Note:  This is a low-resolution photo, which shows the format, but makes reading the text nearly impossible.  In reality, the text of these Bibles is large enough and clear enough to read very easily.
